Florida Summer Activities – Better Safe Than Sorry!

Summer is here in Florida! This is the time for vacations and outdoor activities ‒ many of which involve the water ‒ and with them, the tendency to take extra risks. Because there’s danger lurking in our favorite summer pastimes, we at Strassman Insurance Group want you to follow the proper safety precautions, and be sure you have the right insurance coverage should the worst case scenario occur.

Florida Homeowners Insurance

If you’re planning to leave your house to go on vacation, double-check that the stove is off, surge protectors are on and any home automation equipment is set and scheduled. Of course, secure your property. Not only is doing so important to guard against burglary and vandalism, but to prevent others from accessing your property and putting themselves at risk ‒ and putting you at risk of a lawsuit should someone be injured or killed. You do not have to be at home to be sued by someone injured while on your property (even without your knowledge or permission), or if a child drowns in your pool.

Not only should your pool be covered by your homeowners insurance for personal damage, it should be covered for personal injury, as well. A pool is considered an attractive nuisance, which means it is a part of your property that might attract a child and result in the aforementioned tragedy. The same holds true for trampolines or similar equipment.

If you want even more coverage, an umbrella insurance policy could be a good option, as it covers all underlying policies you own – such as auto, home, motorcycle, boat, etc. – should an award in a lawsuit exceed the limit on your liability insurance.

Florida Motorcycle insurance

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), 62 percent of rider fatalities occur between the months of May and September, with fatalities peaking in June. Summer months have higher numbers for motorcycle and passenger vehicle collisions than any other time of the year. Motorcycle insurance coverage includes medical expenses and lost wages that result from the injury or death of another driver if you’re at fault.

Florida Boat Insurance

This is prime time for exploring Florida’s beautiful waterways, and, consequently, an increased possibility for boating accidents. A boat insurance policy offers liability coverage in case of any injury occurring on your boat. It also covers bodily injury inflicted on others and property damage to your boat.

According to the U.S Coast Guard, there were over 4,000 accidents that involved 658 deaths, 2,629 injuries and approximately $46 million dollars of damage to property as a result of recreational boating accidents. The state of Florida doesn’t require you to carry boat insurance. However, if you finance your boat (and most people do), your bank will require proof of insurance that covers its full value in the event of a loss. Marinas and boatyards also require liability insurance.

Strassman Insurance Group can write a policy that will give you the peace of mind to fully appreciate your boat as a vehicle for relaxation and adventure.

Florida Recreational Vehicle (RV)

Owning a motorhome allows you to enjoy the comforts of home and discover scenic wonders throughout America! However, journeys are not always trouble-free, which is why you need get coverage for any damages, loss or injuries that can occur during your trip. Talk to one of our Strassman Insurance agents and discuss your RV insurance needs, as well as any available discounts.

Florida Life Insurance

If you’re the type who enjoys such activities as water skiing, jet skiing, riding ATVs, skydiving or any other sport that potentially places your life at risk, a life insurance policy is highly advisable. Life insurance allows you to protect your family financially should an fatal accident occur and you are no longer there to provide for them. Although such cases are rare when it comes to summer vacations or activities, preparing for the worst can give you peace of mind – and hopefully, reason to make sure you take every safety precaution necessary before taking part.
